Level 1 – Intro to Improv

This class introduces and builds a foundation for doing scene-based improv. We play games and do exercises to practice getting present, taking risks, and trusting our instincts. We’ll also learn the importance of agreement, supporting teammates, and ‘playing it real.’ Most of all, we have a lot of fun. No experience is required. This is a prerequisite for Level 2.

Class schedule: To be determined.

Level 2 – Game of the Scene

Learn to do intermediate-level improv scenes. You will use strategies like confessions, gifting, real-life inspirations, and framing to build small decisions into grand scenes. You will also learn things like the gentle yes, voice of reason, and justification to learn more about a scene as it is happening.

Class schedule: To be determined.

Level 3 – Second Beats

Learn to initiate off of an opening. This crucial skill lets you start scenes right in the middle of a comedic situation. You will use a monologue or a “living room” discussion to inspire scenes. We’ll get into how to have an idea that’s not too big or too small. How to use the concepts of “voice of reason” and “fool” to frame the comedy of an idea. You’ll learn to work with others to get your scenes started fast.

Class schedule To be determined.

Level 4 – Advanced Forms

Here we’ll learn about the ubiquitous Harold, play with it, but then branch into Pretty Flower, Documentary, Deconstruction, and more. We’ll also rework fundamentals from previous levels. After this class you’ll be ready to take any advanced course from a long form improv school.

Class schedule To be determined.
